About the President
Bringing experiences unique to Hakuba to the world.
Hakuba Mominoki Hotel was never created to chase ratings or stars.
What we have always pursued is something far more personal —
moments that stay with you long after you leave.
Hakuba is not a resort that tries to impress at first glance.
It reveals itself slowly:
through the silence of snowfall, the scent of the forest,
the warmth of people who live here year-round.
Having studied and worked in international mountain resorts,
I learned that true hospitality is not about perfection.
It is about presence, sincerity, and understanding where you are.
Mominoki is designed to feel natural, not manufactured.
Comfortable, but never excessive.
Refined, but never distant.
If your stay here becomes a memory you want to return to,
then we have done our job.

President’s Profile
丸山 一馬(Maruyama Kazuma)
Born in 1978 in Hakuba Village, Nagano Prefecture.
Grew up surrounded by mountains and snow.
After graduating from high school, he moved to Canada on his own.
He studied business administration at Camosun College and the University of Victoria,
and during his studies, he spent a semester as an exchange student
at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management in Germany.
Amidst the differing values of North America and Europe,
he learnt the essence of ‘business management’ and ‘hospitality’.
After graduating, he worked at the Delta Whistler Resort (now Hilton Whistler Resort)
in Whistler, Canada.
He was responsible for front desk, reservations and interpreting duties,
standing at the forefront of hospitality for guests visiting from all over the world.
Armed with this experience, he returned to Hakuba.
He joined the family business, Mominoki,
and established Mominoki Resort Co., Ltd. in 2006,
followed by Hakuba Mominoki Hotel Co., Ltd. in 2010.
Going beyond hotel management,
he expanded his operations to include restaurants, bars, travel services and real estate,
building a unique resort style that integrates
‘accommodation’, ‘dining’, ‘the local area’ and ‘experiences’.
He continues to adhere to a hands-on approach,
and during peak seasons, he can still be found at the front desk or throughout the resort.
-
Global Standards Learned on the Front Lines, Not from Manuals
During my time working in Whistler, Canada,
I engaged daily with guests from diverse nationalities and cultures.
Through these experiences, I learned that true hospitality comes
not from following manuals, but from meeting people as individuals.
This philosophy has become the foundation of the hospitality
we practice at Mominoki Hotel today. -
Why I Stay on the Front Lines, Even as an Owner
From the day we opened to the present,
I continue to stand at the front desk during peak seasons
and spend time in our restaurants as well.
I believe that true management is impossible
without understanding the atmosphere of the front lines. -
Hospitality Shaped by the Sky, Land, and Sea
Holding a wide range of professional licenses—including pilot, vessel operator, and commercial driver—
I have a deep understanding of movement, safety, and the experience of travel itself.
This perspective of designing the entire journey
is reflected in the way we operate and envision our hotel. -
Supporting Hakuba’s Future as Part of Our Work
As Vice Chairman of the Happo-one Tourism Association,
I am involved not only in the management of the hotel itself,
but also in enhancing the value of Hakuba as a region as a whole
